Sanibel Island Fishing Charters, July 10, 2018; Spanish Mackerel!

SanibelFishing.net – Sanibel Fishing Report, Tuesday, July 10: Spanish Mackerel, Catch & Release: Captain Joe’s Charters; water quality okay in spots near Sanibel & Captiva, but red tide and Caloosahatchee freshwater releases problematic; there is red tide impact right now offshore of Boca Grande Pass - big snook fish kills on Boca Grande beaches; also killing baitfish; having a hard time finding and catching baitfish; a lot of good Snook, (away from Boca Grande), Seatrout, Tarpon, Grouper, Spanish Mackerel fishing currently, but need live baitfish and they are not around in the last couple of days.

We fish out of Blind Pass, Sanibel Island: “Blind Pass is one of the best-kept secrets in Southwest Florida, a rare jewel that is open to anyone lucky enough to live or be visiting near the barrier reef islands of Captiva and Sanibel. Until recently, Blind Pass was a naturally occurring channel of water that separated the two islands (it is now dredged regularly to keep it open).

Because it connects the bay with the Gulf, Blind Pass is one of the best shelling spots in Florida. Its waters yield seashells that inhabit both the bay and gulf in one consolidated location.

After a fierce storm, Turner Beach, the beach adjoining the Pass, is frequently covered with a bounty of shells from Olives to Fighting Whelks to the more common Conchs. The fishing is also renowned with sharks in the summer, tailing redfish on the bayside flats and snook under and off the Blind Pass bridge. Because Turner Beach faces Westward, the sunsets are spectacular and a popular viewing point for residents and visitors alike. The fishing is also renowned with sharks in the summer, tailing redfish on the bayside flats and snook under and off the Blind Pass bridge. We’re big advocates of catch and release, particularly for snook, but pretty much for most species.  Only take what you are going to eat, and a lot of fish are better off as sport fish, even if they are in season.  Our motto is let ‘em get bigger and catch ‘em again!

Please call 239-472-8658 and we’ll lineup a charter!

We depart from Castaways Marina, Santiva, Sanibel Island, on the bay side, just south of the Blind Pass bridge to Captiva Island.

Fair winds and following seas,
